Nathan Chan, cellist, plays The Swan by Camille Saint Saens

Teach for America

OK, I am just going to say it........I am sometimes offended by this program. My oldest son graduated from Wabash College with a degree in English Ed. He had to search and interview for the job he has and he is very good at it. He has bought his own home, and is now working and paying for his Master's degree.
My niece graduated from IU with a degree in busniess but signed up for TFA. She got her MA paid for, she got 2 years of housing paid for, she got 2 years of teaching salary, she got a very large sign on bonus, and an 8 week crash course on teaching. She finished her 2 years and is now moving to Chicago to do her "real" job.
I just worry all this sends a message that ANYONE can teach and that someone without a teaching degree is more valuable than one who has devoted their life to this profession. Your thoughts???

Day 2!! Tech Overload

Are we technologically overloaded? Are our students? If you had to give up ONE piece of technology that you use on a daily basis, what would it be?? If you were stuck on an island (that happened to have wireless....lol) what one piece of technology would you want with you??

Day 1!

Hello!

This is my first time blogging so I hope the other members of my class will help me out!! For the past few years I have been writing a journal during my lunch duty......well most days. Sometimes lunch duty can be very interesting and I don't have time to write!! I am hoping that some of the observations I have made during that time will help me with our three required posts.

For now, I will stick to something more relevant to why we are doing this..........

How are you holding up during this class? Do you feel the work is too much, too little, or just right? Hope to hear your thoughts!!
